Krishna Prem

Lord Krishna is the ocean of divine love. Whenever Krishna appeared on this earth He had this ocean of love with Him, but every time He had different roles and different actions so the ocean of love was not open for all. When Lord Krishna appeared as Lord Chaitanya Mahaprabhu with all His associates He opened the ocean of love for all and also enjoyed Himself. Lord Chaitanya Mahaprabhu taught the lesson of Krishna Consciousness to the world as a devotee of Lord Krishna. The wonderful ocean of love made them thirsty more and more and they used the endless ocean more and more.
Srila Rupa Goswami said in his prayer Lord Chaitanya is a “Mahabadanyaya Avatar”, though He is none other than Lord Krishna Himself.Lord Chaitanya has shown so much of mercy on conditioned souls.
Srila Prabhupad explained in his purport of Chaitanya Charitamrita sloka-20 and 21,When Lord Krishna appeared He saved all His devotees those who took shelter on His Lotus Feet, but when He appeared as Lord Chaitanya He did not stop to see any person if he is devotee or not, even He did not see his eligibility. He distributed Krishna Prem to all.
Srila Bhakti Siddhant Saraswati Thakur writes in his Anubhasya, As every living entity is the part of the Lord so every living entity has the eligibility for feeling of Krishna Prem, but the illusion of the material world is more active in them that they cannot come across the line, ultimately they find themselves in miseries all sufferings. Krishna Prem brings a man to the Lords ocean of love so the person feels the heavenly peace from the world of sufferings.
Srila Prabodhananda saraswati has explained in his book “Chaitanya Chandramrita” The Krishna Consciousness movement of Lord Chaitanya Mahaprabhu has a strong effect by His mercy on the conditioned souls that a person quickly realises the right or wrong. As those who are family men do not like wasting time by talking and thinking unnecessarily about their family, so called scholars are not reading more and more Vedas, the yogis are not practising more and more yogas, those who are tapaswis not practising hard tapasya, sanyasis have left the habit of reading more and more Sankhya-Darshan.
In this way many people started practising Krishna Consciousness more and more as explained and instructed by Lord Chaitanya Mahaprabhu and also enjoyed the heavenly pleasure by His mercy.
In Chaitanya Charitamrita , Lord Chaitanya says,
“Krishna Mantra hoite habe samsar mochan,Krishna Nam hoite pabe Krishner charan.”
Only by chanting the Mahamantra the conditioned soul can be delivered from this material world and by chanting the Holy name one can get darshan of His Lotus Feet.
The magic of Krishna Consciousness awakens Krishna Prem in living entities heart and gives him the great opportunity to be in the Lords Ocean of love. This is the magic of Krishna Consciousness that a devotee never think about Dharma, Artha, Kama and Moksha. They only tries and practises for more and more “PREMANANDAMRITA SINDHU”.
As an ideal Acharya Lord Chaitanya Mahaprabhu has taught us Krishna Consciousness and also by His mercy has blessed us by the Mahamantra. So it is truly said that, by chanting Hare Krishna Mahamantra we will get bhaktibhava in our heart, follow the instructions of Lord Chaitanya Mahaprabhu to enjoy the heavenly pleasure . The meaning of this Mahamantra says,”O Lord! O energy of Lord! Please engage me in your divine service.”It is a selfless prayer, a devotee chants for divine service only, nothing else. So the sacred sound gives all pleasure and happiness in the devotees heart.


About the sacred sound Srila Prabhupad has written in the purport of Srimad Bhagbatam 3.26.32.that,it is stated in the Vedanta sutra sound is the origin of all objects of material possessions and by sound one can dissolve this material existence.”Om anavrittih sabdat”it means “liberation of sound”.The entire material manifestation began from sound which materialise if it has a particular potency.This is the transdental vibration” Hare Krishna”.


Srila Prabhupad has explained clearly that the most powerful spiritual sound is the holy name of the Lord. We know the holy name of the Lord is not different from Lord so chanting His holy name purifies our heart and connects us with God. Chanting regularly the holy name enhances our spiritual level of consciousness that we can hear the instructions of the Super soul(Paramatma) in our heart. Our Acharyas says chanting achieves swift step in spiritual enhancement.


Adi Puran has glorified the importance of chanting the Mahamantra,There is no vow such as chanting the holy names of the Lord .There is no knowledge superior to it. There is no meditation which can be compared with it, as it gives the highest result .No penance is equal to it, nothing is as powerful as the holy name of the Lord. Chanting is the greatest act of piety. Chanting is thse highest path to liberation, peace and eternal life.

chanting of the holy name is explained in the Vishnu-dharmotter shastra -
“rigvedo hi yajurvedo samvedapi’tharvanah
adhitatsteno yenouktam Hari iti akshwara dwayam”


The holy name is the essence of the Vedas and far superior to it, anyone who doubts this faces constant misery. Pranav (the sound Om)is one of the Krishna’s name. One who continuously chants Lord Hari(Krishna)considered to have mastered the four Vedas.


Lord Chaitanya Mahaprabhu who is the Lord Krishna Himself chanted this Mahamantra to teach the importance to His devotees.Srila Vrindavan das Thakur in his book Chaitanya Bhagbat has quoted,-Lord Chaitanya ordered everyone in great joy,”

He further said ,I myself spoke and chanted Mahamantra . Chant this mantra in a prescribed number of times regularly. Perfection will be attained through it. Chant this mantra at every moment, there is no other rule. Srila Vrindavan das Thakur also quoted the instructions given by Lord Chaitanya to Tapan Misra-“Everything is accomplished by Harinam Sankirtan including the goal of life and the means for its attainment. In this age of kali (quarrel) the only means of deliverance is the chanting of the names of Lord Hari(Krishna).There is no other way ,no other way, no other way.

This verse of names is called the Mahamantra.It contains sixteen names of the Lord, consisting of thirtytwo syllables.Chanting this Mahamantra again and again will awaken the sprout of the love for the Lord within the heart. Thus by chanting, the goal of life and the means for its attainment are understood.”

Srila Prabhupad in his purport of Srimad Bhagbatam 1.1.14.”The transcendental name of Krishna, even though uttered unconsciously or by the force of circumstances, can help one obtain freedom from the hurdles of the birth and death.

Srila Jiva Goswami has quoted in his book Tattwa-sandharva15.4.”the holy names of Lord Krishna is the sweetest of all sweetness and the most auspicious of the all auspiciousness. It is completely spiritual and it is the transcendental fruit of all Vedic literature. If an ordinary human being chants the holy name of Krishna even only once with faith or even in the spirit of mocking Him the holy name will deliver the chanter from the bondage of repeated birth and death.

These explains the benefits and the super power of the Mahamantra. It is truly said that-
Harer nama Harer nama Harer namaiba kevalam
Kalau nusty eva,nusty eva,nusty eva gatir annyatha.

In the age of kali (quarrel) and hypocrisy the only means of deliverance is the chanting of the holy name of the Lord Hari. There is no other way, no other way, and no other way.
